In South Africa, over 4 million adults live with diabetes, yet nearly half remain undiagnosed. Remarkably, up to 90% of diabetes cases are Type 2 and can often be prevented with a healthy lifestyle. However, diabetes, when untreated, impacts every part of the body and leads to severe complications—especially for women, for whom it is a leading cause of death.
Given the rising prevalence of diabetes, the Tshemba Foundation recognizes the urgent need to address this escalating health crisis by working with our local partners to provide accessible, high-quality diabetes care. Our Diabetes Clinic is a vital extension of our services at Tintswalo Hospital.
Our vision is to have a diabetes clinic where we can provide multi-disciplinary care with dieticians, pharmacists, doctors, and nurses. Some patients need this extra bit of support to be able to take care of their health and with the diabetes they live.
We also envision extending our care into community clinics and schools to bring this life-saving service closer to home for hundreds of families, increasing early detection, reducing complications, and promoting healthier lifestyles.
Your support enables this work. By donating, you can help fund vital equipment like glucometers, HbA1c testing kits, and telemedicine tools to bring quality diabetes care to those who need it most.
You can make a difference by donating funds to purchase specific items our clinic urgently needs.
Your donation supports life-saving resources. Here are five of the most essential items we’re raising funds for:
- Examination Bed – R12,000 each: Provides a safe, comfortable space for patient assessments and care.
- ECG Machine – R10,000: Vital for diagnosing heart health issues, especially critical for diabetic patients.
- Medication Fridge – R10,000: Keeps essential medications safely stored at the correct temperature.
- Portable Glucose Meters – R130 each: Enables patients to monitor blood sugar levels effectively.
- HbA1c Point of Care Testing Kits – R5,000: Allows point-of-care testing for long-term blood sugar control.
Our goal is to raise R178,600 to equip our Diabetes Clinic and reach over 500 patients each month.
Please help us reach our goal! Every contribution builds a healthier future for our community.
